IOGKF Australia
IOGKF Australia is the Australian branch of the International Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation.
The organization was formed in the mid 1970's as demand for Master Morio Higaonna's (IOGKF world Chief Instructor) teachings in the country grew. Later in 1979, the International
organization of the IOGKF was formed in Poole, England.
Since then IOGKF Australia has proven to be one to the International
organizations longest standing and more experienced countries.
IOGKF Australia prides itself on being a traditional Karate organization, dedicated to promoting and preserving its art in its most
traditional and true form - as a cultural treasure of Okinawa. The organization works hard to keep the high standard of its Karate technicians and help to create students of good character and strong moral standards, thus helping to make our
society a better place to live.

The Australian organization is also home to many on the worlds higher ranking instructors and bright future prospects.
IOGKF Australia holds many training courses, camps and tournaments throughout the year. At many of these events the Australian
organization hosts many high ranking instructors, such as Master Higaonna and his most senior students.
IOGKF Australia welcomes any person into our Karate family, irrespective of race,
color, sex or creed.

DOJO OR OTHER ORGANISATION LOOKING TO JOIN:
Any Karate club, dojo or
organization is welcome to join IOGKF Australia.
Membership with IOGKF Australia also makes you an official member of IOGKF International and gives you the chance to train with Master Higaonna and his senior students.
The organization has a great wealth of highly skilled instructors, ready to welcome both you and your students into our dojo's. Both our Chief and Senior Instructors are
available to help your dojo or organization make a move into IOGKF Australia as smoothly as possible.
Our Chief Instructors and their assistants are available to conduct sessions for new dojo's or

CHIEF INSTRUCTORS:
Sensei Joe Roses: 6th Dan
Sensei Joe Roses, who lives in Canberra, ACT is currently ranked 6th Dan in Okinawan Goju ryu, but also holds a 2nd in Jujitsu and a 1st Dan in Kyukoshinkai.
He began his martial arts training over 35 years ago, but began studying Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate under Higaonna Sensei when the Karate Master made his first trip to Australia in 1975.
Since then Sensei Joe has travelled to many countries overseas for International Gasshuku's and seminars with Higaonna Sensei. He has participated in events in Spain, New Zealand, Okinawa and Australian just to name a few.
In 2000 after the sudden passing of Sensei David Lambert, Sensei Joe was made a senior Kambukai (council) member by Higaonna Sensei. In 2003 he was promoted to Chairman of the Australian
organization.
In 2008 the Austrailan Kambukai was abolished and Sensei Joe was made joint chief instructor of Australia by Higaonna Sensei in Okinawa.
Sensei Chris Larken: 6th Dan
Sensei Chris Larken is the head instructor of Newcastle Kotara Dojo and has 35 years of experience in Karate. He was graded Sho Dan in 1977 in Kyokushin and first trained with Sensei Morio Higaonna in 1978 and has been a member of the IOGKF ever since.
Sensei Chris has attended numerous national and international Gasshuku's in his many years of training, journeying all over Europe, Japan and Oceania.
He was graded to 6th Dan in 2004 and was made joint chief instructor of Australia in 2008, along with Sensei Joe Roses, during the 2008 World Budosai festival in Okinawa.

IOGKF International:
The
International Okinawan Goju-ryu Karate-do Federation (IOGKF) was formed in 1979
by Master Morio Higaonna, in Poole, England.
Its goal then was to spread the Karate of Miyagi Chojun Sensei throughout
the world, without straying from the essence of the style.
Today the IOGKF has over 50,000 members in over 45 different Nations.
IOGKF World Chief Instructor, Morio Higaonna Sensei, ranked
10th Dan, travels regularly all over the world, including the Australian and
New Zealand area to conduct training camps.

Sensei Bakkies who is currently ranked 8th Dan, also travels to Australia
annually to conduct training seminars for all IOGKF senior instructors and their
students.
Senior instructors and students of IOGKF regularly attend
national and international Gasshukus, to sustain their high level of expertise
and training. This ensures the standard of IOGKF karate remains pure.
