An'ichi Miyagi Sensei passed away
On April 28, 2009, IOGKF Saiko Shihan (Supreme Master) and Goju-ryu 10th Dan, Miyagi Anichi Sensei passed away in Okinawa.
Anichi Miyagi Sensei was the direct successor of Miyagi Chojun Sensei and the only person to ever learn the entire system from the founder. The Goju-ryu and Karate world are indebted to Anichi Sensei for keeping our style alive during the hardship and aftermath of WWII and for instructing Higaonna Sensei in Chojun Sensei's ideals and training methods.
In 2007 Anichi Sensei named Higaonna Morio Sensei as the successor in the direct line to Miyagi Chojun Sensei. The flame has now indeed passed.

I was deeply rocked when I received the news today of Anichi Sensei's passing. My heart sank deep into my chest and I felt great sadness. The loss of such a kind, humble and caring Master is such a great loss not just to the IOGKF, but to Karate in general.
I believe we all owe Miyagi Anichi Sensei a debt of gratitude, for if it had not been for him, many of us wouldn't be here. He was the only one to learn all the Kata from Chojun Sensei, he wouldn't stray from the traditional path - not matter who fell and most of all, he moulded the amazing Higaonna Sensei we have today.
Last time I saw Anichi Sensei I was really moved by how humble and simple he lived his life. Anichi Sensei has this amazing presence about him, but it is not one of proudness, but of absolute humility and harmony. From looking at Anichi Sensei it is easy to see what a great example Higaonna Sensei had in a Master. I too am committed to never letting his legacy fade.
Higaonna Sensei told me, that we train for our whole life, then, when we pass, we come back as a spirit and keep training.
On the behalf of IOGKF Australia and my family, my deepest thoughts and sympathy's go to the Miyagi family, Higaonna Sensei and to the World in general. I feel a better Karate-ka for having known Anichi Sensei.
